What you need to know:

  • Always use a Building Inspector that has trade qualifications and has Professional Indemnity Insurance.
  • Where a Building Inspector is accredited by us we have verified their qualifications, insurance cover, and quality of reports.
  • For houses built prior to 1940 the common issues are Piles, Roof, and Electrics. In addition to a Building Inspection check with your House Insurer that they will provide full replacement cover.
  • For houses build after 1985 the main issue is water-tightness or “leaky building.” Make sure you use a Certified Water-tightness Inspector if buying a mono-clad home.
  • Remember to check the working condition of any chattels especially central heating units, pools, and spa pools.
